1889 24th Conclave Knight Templar Anheuser Busch Matchsafe

This nickel plated brass matchsafe was a complimentary gift presented to Knight Templars attending the 1889 24th Triennial Conclave in St. Louis, Mo.  St. Louis is home to the famous Anheuser Busch Brewery and I'm sure they held the beer concession for the Conclave.  The front is stamped "Compliments of Anheuser Busch St. Louis" and the Anheuser Busch advertising emblem.  On the back it is stamped "24th Knights Templar's Conclave - October 8, 1889 - Washington, D.C.".  The striker is on the bottom and it has a purse type opening.  It was made by the Hauck Company, Brooklyn, NY.  It measures 3 1/4 inches tall by 1 1/2 inch wide.

We would like to "Thank" Mr. George Sparacio, a member of the International Match Safe Association Executive Committee for his excellent descriptions of many of the fraternal matchsafes seen in our museum collection.  George is also a matchsafe collector and enthusiast and can be contacted at his e-mail address:  mrvesta1@aol.com   He maintains a personal web page with additional contact information at:   http://members.aol.com/mrvesta2
