1901 Past Eminent Commanders Jewel

from Damascus Commandery No. 85 K.T.

This beautiful Past Eminent Commanders Jewel was presented by Damascus Commandery No. 58 K.T. to Em. Sir John McNeil on April 15, 1901 for his service as Commander from 1899-1900.  The cross is a Passion Cross and is the cross on which Jesus suffered crucifixion.  It is the most common form of the cross.  When rayonnant, or having rays issuing from the point of intersection of the limbs, it is the insignia of the Commander of a Commandery of Knights Templar.  It is one of the finest jewels I have seen with both excellent detail and enameling.  All the engraving on the reverse is done by hand!
