1898 Tancred Commandery No. 48

Porcelain Umbrella Stand

This porcelain umbrella stand was made as a presentation piece and looks very similar to the Three Handled Loving cups that were also made by Tancred Commandery in 1898.  The difference of course is that this piece stands 24 inches tall.  The applied handles were broken off by people trying to lift this heavy item by them.  I have seen only one other umbrella stand like this and it was at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial (York Rite room) and its handles were broken off too!  Inscribed on one of the three panels is the presentation that reads:  "Presented to Ascalon Commandery No. 59 K.T. of Pittsburg, Pa. with the Kind and Fraternal Regards of Tancred Commandery No. 48 K.T. of Pittsburg, Pa. and in commemoration of the 27th Triennial Conclave of the Grand Encampment of the United States held in Pittsburg, Pa.  October 10th to 14th, 1898."

A special "Thanks" to Brother Al Lohman, a 30 year collector and 30+ year Masonic Lodge member from Wisconsin for submitting the pictures and description of this beautiful Umbrella Stand.  Al trades on eBay under the User ID  "lochlohman"
