Trench Art Masonic Lamp
from the Balboa Canal
Here is one of the best executed Masonic trench
art artillery shell lamps that this curator has ever seen. It
depicts the Masonic Square and Compasses with the Letter "G" on the front;
Eastern Star emblem on the left side; the York Rite Keystone with with letters
"K S H T W S S T" and the original owners "GPG" monogram within the Chapter
Penny in the center. The Shrine of North America emblem is also on the
back. It is marked "Balboa Canal Zone" on the front around the base of
the shell which is mounted on a solid mahogany (three stepped) base.
Although there is wear to the paint on the emblems (most-likely from excessive
cleaning/polishing - note the white residue in the etchings), the lamp is in
great working condition. It measures 33 inches tall 9 1/2 inches wide
across the base.
