Statement of Operation and
Policies
The
Phoenixmasonry Museum and Library was founded on August 11, 1999, by a group
of Masonic and non-Masonic students desirous of seeking and spreading Masonic
light. Phoenixmasonry is not a Masonic organization; it is an independent and
nonpartisan Masonic cultural, historic and literary resource. Phoenixmasonry,
Inc. is a Florida
not-for-profit corporation. It is unaffiliated with any Masonic obedience. We
are “An Independent and Universal Masonic Resource”. It is served by a
six-member board of directors who volunteer their time and money to publish
articles and list Masonic memorabilia and artifacts on the first internet
web-based Masonic Museum and Library. Our website is listed on the Internet
at: http://www.phoenixmasonry.org.
Our museum
maintains items for public viewing as well as an online presence. The Board
of Phoenixmasonry makes decisions and purchases for the museum.
Our policy on
ownership and duplicate items is as follows: Our museum has all the items ever
donated to it and maintains a strict chain of custody of those items which are
recorded from one curator to the next. They are photographed and shared
online with the general public. If donors send us duplicate books, Bibles,
white leather aprons, rings and other miscellaneous Masonic jewelry of no
intrinsic value, we give them away to newly made Masons or dispose of them
properly as you would an American flag, with reverence and respect.
Phoenixmasonry
does not make appraisals. Any and all
appraisals for donations have to be conducted by outside third party
appraisers. Phoenixmasonry is not allowed to make appraisals and has never
quoted any inquiries with a dollar value. This policy is posted on our
website at:
http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/masonicmuseum/ .
This
policy reads to wit: "The Phoenixmasonry Masonic Museum and Library, in
concert with the policies of many museum and libraries, respectfully declines
to provide appraisals or an assessment of the value of an object - in
accordance with federal tax law and the American Association of Museums Code
of Ethics. Phoenixmasonry also respectfully declines to recommend one
appraiser over another. To find a qualified appraiser, please check your local
telephone directory, go online to find local appraisers or contact:
